Stay safe with Comeet with tips for spotting and reporting suspicious job postings

Updated over a month ago

At Comeet, we prioritize your safety. While we work hard to ensure all companies on our platform are legitimate, it’s important to act quickly if you spot anything suspicious before, during, or after applying for a job. Here’s what to look out for and how to respond if something doesn’t seem right.

Awareness notice

The purpose of this notice is to raise awareness among candidates regarding the risks associated with sharing unnecessary information and personal data with companies.

Before applying

Before applying for a job, if you are not familiar with the company, do some research about it. Check their website, social media, reviews, and other sources to verify their legitimacy and reputation. If the company does not have a clear online presence, or if you find any red flags or inconsistencies, be cautious and consider not applying.

How to spot suspicious activity

Be alert for the following red flags:

  • Unusual requests for sensitive information like your Social Security number, bank account information, credit card number, online account details and passwords, or personal documents early in the process.

  • Requests for payment for things like training, application processing, or equipment—legitimate employers won’t ask for this.

  • Poor communication including grammatical errors, vague job details, or unprofessional language.

  • Job offers without interviews or after minimal communication or unrealistic offers. Ensure that the job offered matches the job description and title of the job you applied for.

  • Inconsistent company information that doesn't match official records or has limited online presence.

  • Unknown email domains not associated with the company. Watch closely for misspelled or fake company names.

What to do if you suspect suspicious activity

  1. Do not share further information. End all communication with the company and refrain from providing any additional details or information of any kind.

  2. Document everything. Save all emails, messages, and job postings related to the application.

  3. Verify the company’s authenticity:

    • Visit the company's official website to confirm contact details.

    • Research the company on reputable business sites and read reviews.

    • Call the company’s official phone number to verify the job posting and the recruiter's identity.

  4. If the messages from the suspicious company contained links:

    • Avoid downloading any unknown software to your device.

    • Don’t enter usernames, passwords, or any other personal information into landing pages or pop-up windows opened from those links.

  5. Report it to us immediately. Email us at support@comeet.co. Please provide as much detail as possible to help us investigate, including:

    • The job title, company name, and URL of the job you applied for.

    • Copies or screenshots of communications or other evidence.

    • Any other relevant and available information.

  6. Report to local authorities if necessary. If you believe you've been a victim of fraud, consider reporting it to your local law enforcement agency or relevant fraud prevention organizations.

Your feedback helps us maintain a safe and reliable platform for all users and job candidates. When you report suspicious activity we will use commercially reasonable efforts to investigate your report and take necessary actions which may include removing the job posting or suspending the company's account.

Thank you for helping us keep our community safe.
